Fados - 32nd HKIFF

Carlo Saura is always a master of music film. His use of cinematograhy, staged theatre mise en-scene and great dancing performance by spanish/latin dancers by itself, is already worth the ticket to the cinema. This time in Fados, a music film about the Portuguese folk song, Saura had produced much the same, only this time with performance of Latin song veterans, such as Mariza and Veloso. Different style of Fados were performed a wide range of artists, ranging from some more traditional to Raps, as the film tries to go through the history and the transformation of Fados music through time. To add a personal touch, I am delighted to hear Mariza's O Gente Da Minha Terra, my favourite song from the film, "Isebella" sound track.
